Chelsea has broken the women’s transfer record with the signing of Mayra Ramírez.
After several weeks of speculation, the Blues have finally announced the signing of talented Colombian forward Mayra Ramirez, who played a key role in her country’s spectacular run to the quarterfinals of the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
Chelsea bought the striker from Spanish club Levante after she scored six goals in seven games this season, with an overall record of 32 goals in 95 games in Liga F, the Spanish top division, during the previous four years.
The Blues paid €500,000 for Ramirez, shattering the previous women’s transfer record by approximately €30,000 18 months after it was set. Previously, England midfielder Keira Walsh was the world’s most expensive female footballer, having joined Barcelona from Manchester City in 2022 for €470,000.

Ramirez promises to deliver success.
Ramirez was acquired to replace Australian great Sam Kerr, who suffered a sad ACL injury that sidelined her for the remainder of the season. “Mayra is a dynamic forward who can play anywhere across the front line,” Chelsea general manager Paul Green said in a club statement.
“We have seen her develop in Spain over the previous few years and believe her style will fit playing in England. She possesses excellent physicality, athleticism, and a strong goal-scoring record. We’re all enthused about what she can add to the group both now and in the future.
“I am very honoured to be a part of Chelsea,” Ramirez stated in the same statement. “To be part of such a huge club is a dream come true and one I’ve had since I was a little girl.”
“It is always about the collective. I want to assist the squad win every competition we enter this season. It is about attaining the club’s aims. [The WSL] is one of the top leagues in the world.”
“Spain is, of course, a good league, and Barcelona competes at the greatest level. However, I believe that the Women’s Super League has reached its peak. So I’m quite interested to learn about the league and immerse myself in a new atmosphere.”
