Manchester United and Chelsea are reportedly on high alert following news that Barcelona has set an asking price for Frenkie de Jong. The Dutch midfielder transferred to the Catalan club from Ajax for approximately €75 million in 2019 and has since become a pivotal figure, featuring in 206 matches across various competitions and scoring 16 goals. Notably, he has clinched La Liga, Copa de Rey, and Supercopa de Espana titles during his tenure.
In 2022, there were strong rumors linking De Jong to a move to Manchester United, with reports of a £70 million bid from the club. However, the 26-year-old opted to remain with Barcelona, rejecting the transfer offer. Consequently, United redirected their focus and secured the services of Brazilian star Casemiro from Real Madrid for £60 million. As the summer transfer window approaches, speculation about De Jong’s future has resurfaced.
According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona has slapped an £85 million price tag on De Jong. When asked about his future in an interview with Dutch media outlet NOS, De Jong remained open to the possibility of a move but expressed contentment at Barcelona, stating, “Possibly. But I’m very satisfied at Barca. It’s always difficult to say. For now I feel good here. I am in the club where I always wanted to be, where I dreamed.”
Given these recent developments, both Manchester United and Chelsea may reignite their interest in De Jong and attempt to lure him to the Premier League once more.
